La Paz – Las Arenas/ Muertos Bay Fishing Report from Tailhunter Sportfishing for Week of Feb. 1-8, 2016
February 9, 2016 by riplipboy

Carl Lange has visited us many times over the years, but never got his marlin…until this week! Braving winds and waves and even getting a bit wet, he got this guy on a frozen mackerel. A quick photo with Captain Pancho and the fish was released. We don’t usually see Marlin until May or so! Great smile, Carl!

An unusual and large catch for amigo, Ken Gragg. A chilecano that looks like a giant sardine! These fish usually school up and don’t usually hit a hook and line. Punta Perrico is just behind Ken.

Nicely done…as always! Donna Thompson fishing with Captain Hugo rarely misses. She’s got a nice pair of sierra that make great ceviche! Interestingly, both warm and cold water species are in our area right now even tho’ it’s WINTER!
`

We are smack in the middle of the migration of the gray whales and our whalewatching trips to Magdalena Bay. Ask us about our daily trips! This is a great family opportunity to get up close with these gentle giants!

Here we are ready to go in Portland! The Pacific Northwest Sportsman’s Show kicks off Wednesday to Sunday at the Portland Expo Center in Oregon. It’s a great show. Come visit us in our booth.
TERRIBLE WINDY WEEK BUT THIS WEEK SHAPING UP BETTER
La Paz – Las Arenas/ Muertos Bay Fishing Report for Week of Feb. 1-8, 2016
Tough week to fish. It’s been like this all winter. Just too windy to get out with double digit winds every single day this week. All from the north. Fortunately, being winter, there’s not many folks asking to go fish or even many fishermen around. We have one day early in the week where the forecast said it would be single digit winds and had some clients who only had one day to fish. We tried to send them out, but the winds were so strong, they never even got off the beach and we had to drive them back to La Paz from Muertos Bay.
The formula is basically this. If there’s storms north of Mexico, there will probably be windy days south of the border. Simple! With El Nino, there have been a big procession of storms in the U.S. which is much needed. I get that. This is all part of a natural cycle that’s been going on for eons so there’s not much to be done about it. It is what it is.
This coming week looks much more promising according to the forecasts so hopefully, the winds will lay down. When the winds lay down, the last few weeks we’ve gotten yellowtail, wahoo, sailfish, marlin, pargo, cabrilla and sierra.
PORTLAND PACIFIC NORTHWEST SPORTSMANS SHOW

We’ll be taking the 2016 Tailhunter Road Tour to Portland this week. We had a great time in the Seattle area last week for the Washington show with lots of folks reserving fishing trips for this year. The Portland show starts Wednesday and goes through Sunday. This is one of the largest shows on the West Coast. It’s a great family event with everything for fishing, hunting, camping, boating, RV’s and more!
Here’s more details and how to get discounted tickets: http:/http://www.thesportshows.com/shows/pacific-northwest/show-information/
We’ll look forward to seeing you at the booth!
That’s our story!
